Propylene Production via Metathesis - Cost Analysis

چکیده

This report presents a cost analysis of Polymer Grade (PG) Propylene production from ethylene and raffinate-2 using a metathesis process. The process examined is similar to CB&I Lummus Technology's Olefins Conversion Technology (OCT). In this process, Polymer Grade Propylene is produced through a metathesis reaction of ethylene with 2-butene, present in raffinate-2 feedstock. This report examines one-time costs associated with the construction of a United States-based plant and the continuing costs associated with the daily operation of such a plant. More specifically, it discusses: * Capital Investment, broken down by: Total fixed capital required, divided in process unit (ISBL); infrastructure (OSBL), contingency and owner's cost Working capital and costs incurred during industrial plant commissioning and start-up * Operating cost, broken down by: Operating variable costs (raw materials, utilities) Operating fixed costs (maintenance costs, operating charges, plant overhead, local taxes and insurance) Depreciation * Product value analysis, incorporating corporate overhead costs and return on capital employed * Raw materials consumption, products generation and labor requirements * Process block flow diagram and description of industrial site installations (process unit and infrastructure) 2012/13 Report ID: Propylene E11A This report was developed based essentially on the following reference(s): (1) US Patent 8440874, issued to Lummus Technology and BASF in 2013 (2) US Patent 20050124839, issued to Lummus Technology in 2005

High selectivity production of propylene from 2-butene: non-degenerate pathways to convert symmetric olefins via olefin metathesis.

The first example of propylene production from 2-butene in promising yield is described by reacting trans-2-butene over tungsten hydrides precursor W-H/Al(2)O(3) at 150 °C and different pressures in a continuous flow reactor. The tungsten carbene-hydride active site operates as a "bi-functional catalyst" through the disfavoured 2-butene isomerisation on W-hydride and 2-butenes/1-butene cross-me...

Nature of WOx Sites on SiO2 and Their Molecular Structure− Reactivity/Selectivity Relationships for Propylene Metathesis

Supported WOx/SiO2 catalysts were investigated for propylene metathesis as a function of tungsten oxide loading and temperature. The catalysts were synthesized by incipient-wetness impregnation of an aqueous ammonium metatungstate solution onto the silica support and calcined at elevated temperatures to form the supported tungsten oxide phase. In situ Raman spectroscopy under dehydrated conditi...

Physicochemical Properties and Catalytic Performances of Nanostructured V2O5 over TiO2 and γ-Al2O3 for Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Propane

Propylene is an important raw material and extensively used in the petrochemical industry. There has been a continuously growing demand for propylene in recent years around the world1–3. The majority of propylene is produced as a byproduct from processes such as steam cracking of naphtha and fluid catalytic cracking (FCC)4,5. Additional sources of propylene included dehydrogenation of propane, ...

The effect of supported MoO(X) structures on the reaction pathways of propene formation in the metathesis of ethylene and 2-butene.

The kind of surface MoOX structures on Al2O3-SiO2 was found to determine propene selectivity in the metathesis of ethylene and 2-butene. Compared to isolated tetrahedral MoOX species, their polymerized octahedral counterparts show significantly lower activity for isomerisation of 2- to 1-butene thus hindering non-selective metathesis of these butenes. In addition, they reveal higher ability to ...

Surface and Catalytic Chemistry of Small Hydrocarbons on Oxidized Molybdenum

It is shown that model oxides grown on metallic substrates catalyze propylene metathesis to form ethylene and butene with an activity that mimics that of supported catalysts for reaction below ∼650 K. Another reaction regime is found for olefin metathesis above ∼650 K, where the reaction proceeds with a much higher activation energy of ∼60 kcal/mol. Unfortunately, alkenes do not react to any de...
